Online Bingo On The Rise – Now It's Matchmaking
Due to the economic recession, people no longer have the disposable income to play bingo in halls. Also, the smoking ban means that many people have forgone leaving their homes to play – why do so when you can play with bonuses and at your own home?
The only thing missing from online bingo was social interaction but apparently that's not a problem either – just ask Rachel Brooks and Steve Reeves, who met and fell in love playing bingo online.
"I've got a gorgeous cat and my restaurant keeps me busy at weekends so I had pretty much given up on having a man in my life," comments Rachel, a curry house owner from Devon. "That all suddenly changed when I started playing bingo online. I started having a bit of banter with another player in the community chat room and within a fortnight I was on the phone to him six times a day!"
Steven, a disabled diabetic from Weston-Super-Mare, used to go down to the bingo hall every week. "The bingo halls used to be a great place to meet people but the smoking ban put a lot of people off and the prices were jacked up to cover their overheads," comments Steven. "That is when I started playing online and I stumbled upon BingoOnTheBox.com which is a fun site and a great community of players."

Revenues Up For Bingo.com
16th February 2009
Bingo.com Limited, operator of popular online gaming site Bingo.com, has released its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter of last year revealing a 17 percent increase in year-on-year total revenues.
Although total revenues for the final quarter of 2008 were $1.32 million, this represented a 15 percent decrease over the third quarter. In addition, revenues produced from gaming operations rose 23 percent to $1.28 million, which was down 13 percent from the previous period.
For the year, the Anguilla-based firm reported that revenues amounted to $5.64 million while total loses came in at $1.16 million, which was a decrease of 19 percent compared to $1.43 million for 2007.
'The fourth quarter of 2008 was another strong quarter of growth for Bingo.com as we saw increased gaming revenues across all our products,' said Tarrnie Williams, Chief Executive Officer for Bingo.com.
'However, like many international companies, we have been negatively affected by the dramatic volatility of the currency market, particularly the fall of the UK Pound Sterling and the strengthening of the United States Dollar in relation to other world currencies.
'To help alleviate our future exposure to currency risk and to aid our expansion into new markets, we will shortly be implementing a multi-currency product feature to our gaming software that will allow for simultaneous gaming activity in Pounds Sterling, United States Dollars, Euros and other currencies we choose to offer.
“We continue to follow our business plan, which has been successful to date at securing significant numbers of bingo and slots players in the United Kingdom.
“In addition, through leveraging our recently acquired Maltese gaming license, we are creating a number of additional language and market-specific initiatives in anticipation of launching in several new markets in 2009.”

Google Follows the Money Trail to Gambling
UK allows gambling companies to advertise on TV and Google jumps on board to allow online casinos and bingo to advertise on their UK domain. It's a wise financial decision and Google knows it.
In an about turn on their own policies regarding online gambling, Google now allows commercials by online casinos and bingo operators on their UK portal.
The news comes after a global four-year ban by Google's Adword service. Online Casinos will now flood Google UK web space as they do battle for British customers.
Financial reasons
Google realizes that they stand to lose revenue by continuing to block online gambling commercials. Despite heavy pressure from the US to block online gambling ads, Google wants to be sure that it is in line with current local business practices.
Online bingo is keen to get involved by promoting their game online. Advertising budgets are swelling as these new opportunities open up. Bingo companies are biting at the chance to promote their game on television and online portals.
It's all good news for bingo brands such as PartyBingo, Virgin Bingo and affiliate programs such as The Bingo Affiliates will be looking to make the most of the new opportunities that present.
On the surface Google advertising has hit the jackpot with these new developments.

Bingo bloke Tanveer Ahmed's outrage at Logie 'injustice' - Sydney Confidential - The Daily Telegraph - 26th March 2008
Here's one for A Current Affair to gatecrash Seven's studios over: the No Bingo bloke reckons he's been dudded out of a Logie nomination.
Forget about unpaid prize money, Tanveer Ahmed reckons the real scandal out of Channel 7's shelved game show, National Bingo Night, was the ball girl getting a nom for best new talent on TV and not him.
The cult hero is not happy and he's talking tough to Confidential.
"The process of selection for Logie nominees must be called into question when the Bingo Commissioner (him) gets knocked back behind Renee Bargh, the ball girl," he railed.
"Realistically, the show flopped but the popularity and impact of the Bingo referee character (him again) was far beyond the short lifespan and lukewarm ratings of the program."
Over to you, Tracy Grimshaw. (Credit: News.com.au)
Greg Tingle comment...
Tanveer Ahmed might like to try his luck at online bingo, since Channel Seven ripped his bingo show off the air after the scandal surfaced. Did anyone believe that the bingo show he hosted was not rigged? I've got an affiliate program perfect for Mr Bingo. Tanveer, your welcome to pitch us here at Media Man Australia and Casino News Media - its TINGLE, not BINGO. This should be some good fodder for news media. As News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch says, "Big will not beat small anymore, it will be the fast beating the slow". Be watching for The Australian newspaper gambling feature, The Punt, coming this March.

Online Bingo vs Venue Bingo
Online Bingo is one of the fastest growing internet gambling games in the world.
Smoking bans has forced players out of their local halls and many, as a result, have taken up online bingo.
In principle the games are the same, but the experience is very different. Players buy cards online with a set of numbers and a computer randomly generates balls which are called out and marked off by players. Numerous versions of the game can be found online including 90,80 or 75.
Playing online can be considered very different. Players log in to their own private bingo account where they can deposit any amount of money. All users need is a PC, Internet connection and bank account, all of which the majority of households have.
Funds are then deposited by the click of a button into the players account and they can use this to purchase cards for games scheduled at a specific time. Some operators such as Party Bingo and Virgin Bingo have games taking place every couple of minutes others are more spaced out.
If a player wins playing online, the money is directly transferred to their bingo account which can then be withdrawn into their standard bank account.
Online promotions are also available which offer players cash bonuses, special prize games, monthly prize draws and much more. These are often a major attraction for new players who look to make the most of loyalty programs and specials.
Offline bingo has struggled for several years now, however some operators are introducing new sheltered areas where players can take part in bingo games whilst smoking and socializing.
Hitwise, one of the worlds most respected online measurement companies, reports that online bingo continues to grow in popularity, and many industry insiders are predicting that online bingo will soon equal the popularity of online poker, but the majority of bingo players will be female (up to approximately 70%), while online poker players are 80% male, 20% female.
Many gaming operators now have their own bingo portals, and the leading bingo operators such as The Bingo Affiliates have bingo broken down into geographic regions, such as Australian (Bingo Australia), Canada (Canadian Dollar Bingo) and France (Bingo Francais.Com)
More detailed information on the world of online bingo vs tradition bingo coming soon.

Gala Bingo fight the Smoking Ban - 4th February 2009
Hundreds of UK bingo halls have faced closure in recent years after the 2007 smoking ban was brought in to action. Companies such as Gala Bingo have been forced to shut several of their bingo halls after players numbers dropped and the increased taxation damaged revenues.
Several traditional bingo halls closed around the country and the industry's future looked bleak. However Gala have recently introduced new covered outdoor smoking shelters, which allow players to smoke whilst taking part in bingo games.
The Fenton Gala Bingo hall is one of the first to open the new shelters and managers hope to re-attract players ,who left due to the smoking ban, and get them back to playing live bingo.
The shelters will feature electronic bingo boards holding games with Jackpots up to £1000. Bingo halls have been in desperate need of upgrading and Gala are certainly leading the way for technologically advanced bingo gaming!
One major reason for people visiting and playing bingo at halls is the social element. Friends would meet up once a week play catch up with each other and relax playing a few games of bingo.
The smoking ban resulted in many leaving halls but shelters, such as the one built in Felton, hope to reintroduce the social attraction of playing bingo.

CAP bingo awards baffle industry
The 2nd Annual Casino Affiliate Programmes Awards, which were held last night in London, saw three winners in the bingo categories.
Two winners were widely accepted as being reasonably fair within the industry but most bingo insiders were left baffled by the decision to award Playtech the title of Best Bingo Software.
One bingo software rival said: “I could name six bingo software companies with better software than Playtech. They have hardly any licensees and their product is obviously not competitive in the market. To be frank, the judges must have been smoking something pretty strong to come up with this verdict.”
They added: “It's a shame because it definitely detracts from the overall credibility of the awards”.
The other winners in the CAP awards for bingo were Jackpot Joy/Market Ace for Best Bingo Affiliate and Bingo Port for Best Bingo Affiliate. Both of these awards were widely considered to be reasonable within the bingo industry and a fair reflection of the hard work put in by both sites over the past year.
